Heavy Gear RPG: Introducing the Hangar

Prof9844 here, Than is out of town this week so I figured we could take some time to discuss the RPG 4e/2e conversions and talk about how we are going to “preconvert” stuff for you. First off it is important to understand that the 4e rulebook has a process for converting 2e content into 4e. However, the nature of that conversion makes it hard to reverse. This means that in practice, converting 4e stuff will be more difficult and is not something the core rulebook supports. Characters are doable, but vehicles are the problem. Due to the shift to a Blitz style of combat, 2e vehicles conversion is tedious and has a lot of variables to account for.

So with that in mind I want to introduce The Hanger. The Hanger is a living PDF document supported on the community site (right here) that will provide already converted versions of vehicles. The RPG core book has tons of them, and most older vehicles are present. Some of the more niche elements like Pandas are missing from the core book. These units will live in the Hanger until we officially roll them out in a book or via Extended content. After that roll out they will be removed from the Hanger and the finalized stats will be official. There may be some changes that occur due to playtesting, balance, or other concerns so the Hanger stats are not something that should be taken as fixed. The Hanger will be online for official launch. So the dynamic will be like this. The vehicles in any published work (core book, expansion etc) will be official. Those that appear in adventure modules as well are considered official within those adventures. Not all the adventure vehicles will be suited to a TN1954 adventure so check with your Director. Expanded content posted on this site is also official and can be used with Director’s permission. The Hanger content is official but subject to change. They can be used but we recommend sticking to the officially released stuff for the best experience.
